Fourth Appellate District Announces Launch of E-Filing Programs

SAN DIEGO—Administrative Presiding Justice Judith McConnell today announced that Divisions One and Two of the Fourth Appellate District will begin accepting electronically filed documents on May 1, 2012.

The list of documents that may be e-filed initially includes routine clerical filings such as change of address, dismissals and stipulations for extension of time. A complete list can be found  here.

“This marks the court’s initial steps into electronic filing,” stated Administrative Presiding Justice McConnell. “As we evaluate its success, we anticipate expanding the program to include more documents and areas of litigation to make the courts more accessible.” E-filing saves time and money for the Clerk’s Office, the court, and lawyers and litigants by reducing time and travel expenses.

This marks the Fourth Appellate District’s most ambitious effort so far to enable paperless filing of documents, thus avoiding the expense and delay of a trip to the courthouse or use of mail and delivery services. Past projects have included fax filing, e-submission and accepting briefs by hyperlinked CD.

See this page for more information about e-filing in the Fourth District. Division One hears appeals from the superior courts in San Diego and Imperial Counties, and Division Two hears appeals from the superior courts in Inyo, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties.

E-filing programs are also available in the Second, Fifth, and Sixth Appellate Districts.
