Overview/Program Description:

Through collaboration with local shelters, Homeless Court is a special court session for the homeless to resolve outstanding minor offenses and warrants, generally arising out of the condition of homelessness, such as sleeping or drinking in public. Ventura County Homeless Court is identified as a key component of the 10-year Plan to End Homelessness in Ventura County.

Program Benefits/Savings:

This court session helps the homeless transition back in to productive lives and has reduced recidivism, helps build trust and confidence in the justice system for the population being served, and results in reduced court and jail costs. By bringing the court to the community, matters are being resolved and fewer court resources are expended.
