Andrew R. Schottky (1888 - February 24, 1980)Born in Georgia, and raised in Merced County, Andrew Schottky was educated at the University of California and Hastings College of the Law. He practiced law in Merced from 1914 to 1939 and was a U.S. Referee in Bankruptcy from 1914 to 1931, State Inheritance Tax Appraiser from 1921 to 1931, and City Attorney for the City of Los Banos from 1931 to 1933. He was elected to the State Senate in 1930, serving two terms, until 1938. As State Senator, Schottky served on the joint water committee that recommended the Central Valley Project in 1933, and was joint author of the income tax law in 1935. He was appointed Judge of the Superior Court of Mariposa County in 1939, where he served until his appointment to the Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, in December 1952. Justice Schottky retired from the bench in September 1964. He died February 24, 1980, in Sacramento at age 92.
