Chief Justice Names More Members to Language Access Task Force

Appointments include court interpreters, legal service providers, and community members; first meeting is April 29

SAN FRANCISCO— California Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye named 12 new members to the Language Access Plan Implementation Task Force. Chaired by California Supreme Court Associate Justice Mariano-Florentino Cuéllar, the task force will advise the Judicial Council on implementation of the 75 recommendations contained in the Strategic Plan for Language Access in the California Courts.

The task force includes judicial officers, court administrators, court interpreters, legal services providers, and community members.

“The task force includes key players in the provision of language access services in the courts,” said Chief Justice Cantil-Sakauye. “We received many nominations, reflecting the tremendous passion and interest in improving language access to the courts for California’s 7 million limited English proficient residents.”

The task force will hold its first open meeting by phone on April 29, and has planned its first in-person meeting for June 17 in San Francisco. The task force also expects to hold community meetings around the state to receive input from a wide variety of language access stakeholders and interested members of the public regarding successful implementation of the plan.
