Court Innovations Grant Program

As part of the Budget Act of 2016, the Legislature appropriated $25 million for a competitive grant program known as the Court Innovations Grant Program to be administered by the Judicial Council of California.  The funds are designated for trial and appellate courts to use for the establishment, operation, administration, and staffing of programs and practices that promote innovations, modernization, and efficiency.

On March 24, 2017, the Judicial Council awarded 53 grants collectively worth more than $23 million to 29 courts throughout the State.  The grants will be used to promote innovation, modernization, and efficiency in California’s courts.

By October 31, 2016, the Judicial Council received numerous grant applications requesting grant funds in excess of the grant funds available in the Court Innovations Grant Program.

Until September 26, 2016, the Judicial Council accepted Notices of Intent to Apply from prospective grant applicants.

On September 20, 2016, Judicial Council staff offered two WebEx/teleconference sessions to provide details and answer questions about the Court Innovations Grant Program for interested parties. View the presentation.

On September 1, 2016, the Request for Applications was made available online for courts interested in applying for a grant.
