As part of the Budget Act of 2016, the Legislature appropriated $25 million for a competitive grant program known as the Court Innovations Grant Program to be administered by the Judicial Council of California. The funds are designated for trial and appellate courts to use for the establishment, operation, administration, and staffing of programs and practices that promote innovations, modernization, and efficiency.

*Dates and deadlines within the RFA may be modified by the Judicial Branch Budget Committee with the one exception that the grant application may not be due sooner than October 31, 2016.
The Judicial Branch Budget Committee will review the grant applications and decide who will receive funds from the Court Innovations Grant Program.
Chief Justice Tani G. Cantil-Sakauye created the Ad Hoc Working Group on Innovations Grants in June 2016, to develop a competitive grant program for supporting the Judicial Council in awarding funds to courts for innovative and efficient judicial branch services and programs.
By October 31, 2016, the Judicial Council received numerous grant applications requesting grant funds in excess of the grant funds available in the Court Innovations Grant Program.
Until September 26, 2016, the Judicial Council accepted Notices of Intent to Apply from prospective grant applicants.
On September 20, 2016, Judicial Council staff offered two WebEx/teleconference sessions to provide details and answer questions about the Court Innovations Grant Program for interested parties. View the presentation.
On September 1, 2016, the Request for Applications was made available online for courts interested in applying for a grant.
