State Completes Bond Sale for Construction of New San Diego Courthouse
On Nov 20, the California State Treasurer's Office completed the lease-revenue bond sale to finance construction of the new San Diego Courthouse. Construction of the new 71-courtroom, 704,000 square-foot facility, the judicial branch’s largest project, is scheduled to begin in December with site preparation and is expected to reach completion in fall 2016. Courthouse construction and renovation projects are funded by fees and assessments paid by court users with no impact on the state’s General Fund.

Budget Allocation Approved for Trial Court Facility Modifications
The Judicial Council approved a recommendation by the Trial Court Facility Modification Advisory Committee to allocate $50 million for trial court facility modifications and planning for fiscal year 2013–2014. The funding will address emergency and critical projects, but will not be enough to prevent further deterioration of aging courthouses in need of upgrades to such critical components as HVAC systems, elevators, and roofs. Judicial Branch Five-Year Infrastructure Plan for FY 2014-2015
The latest version of the Judicial Council's trial court capital-outlay plan has been posted. The plan includes a summary of capital project funding requests for fiscal year 2014–2015 that will be submitted to the Department of Finance and an updated list of 100 unfunded projects (in January 2013 dollars), including new construction, additions, and major renovations.

The Richard E. Arnason Justice Center in Pittsburg for the Superior Court of Contra Costa County was recently awarded the 2013 Excellence Award, the highest honor given by the American Institute of Architects Academy of Architecture for Justice. The project will appear in the group's Justice Facilities Review.
