Associate Justice James A. McIntyre of the Court of Appeal, Fourth Appellate District, Division One, will retire on June 30, 2016, after 20 years on the bench.

TrueFiling Training for Fourth District, Division Two filers - Tuesday, May 24, 2016, 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  In June 2016, e-filing through ImageSoft's TrueFiling system will be mandatory for all attorneys in the Court of Appeal, Fourth District, Division Two. Filers are invited to learn more about the TrueFiling product and e-filing; the court will offer free user training to the legal community.

Pursuant to Local Rule 5(2)(e)(3) - Any party who orders a reporter’s transcript of the proceeding pursuant to California Rules of Court, rule 8.130, must also request a copy of the transcript in electronic format, as provided in California Rules of Court, rule 8.130(f)(4), and must submit an electronic copy to the court. Effective April 4, 2016, a new Local Rule 5 has been adopted in conjunction with the implementation of e-filing in the Fourth District; the new local rule will replace existing Local Rule 5 on April 4, 2016.  Pursuant to Division One's Miscellaneous Order #031516, mandatory e-filing under the new Local Rule will take effect on April 11, 2016, although parties may utilize e-filing on a voluntary basis beginning on April 4, 2016.  New Local Rule 5 will take effect in Divisions Two and Three after the issuance of authorizing miscellaneous orders by those courts.

The 4th District is unique in that it is divided into three geographical divisions.

  • Division One is located in San Diego and has jurisdiction over matters from Imperial and San Diego Counties.
  • Division Two is located in Riverside and has jurisdiction over matters from Inyo, Riverside, and San Bernardino Counties.
  • Division Three is located in Santa Ana and has jurisdiction over matters from Orange County
