Mandatory Electronic Filing (Updated July 23, 2015)

Documents must comply with Local Rule 8. Some of the guidelines associated with the requirements of that rule are highlighted below and contained in the Formatting Guidelines.

  • Document pages must be consecutively numbered beginning from the cover page of the document and using only the Arabic numbering system, as in 1, 2, 3;
  • In a document containing multiple volumes, pages must be numbered consecutively from the first volume to the last volume, using only the Arabic numbering system, as in 1, 2, 3.  For example, an Appendix with 3 volumes, containing 300 pages each, must be page numbered 1-900.  The first volume should contain a master index for all volumes.  These requirements are necessary because the volumes are merged together into one document at the court.
  • Each topic heading in the table of contents or index for each document, including the heading "Table of Contents" or "Index", must be electronically bookmarked. This requirement is necessary so the document is useable electronically by the court or a party.
  • For original proceedings, please refer to Local Rule 8 in its entirety for specific formatting required;
  • For civil cases, pagination must comply with Local Rule 8 even when a Certificate of Interested Entities or Parties (form APP-008) is inserted into the brief.
  • Parties must comply with California Rules of Court, rule 8.77, regarding documents signed under penalty of perjury or documents requiring signatures of multiple parties.
