JusticeCorps members will be trained to provide legal information to self–represented litigants to assist them with resolving important legal matters. JusticeCorps members assist litigants by helping litigants prepare court paperwork, by making referrals, or through assistance at a legal information workshop. Members will receive training in a variety of areas to support and enhance the member’s service to the public as well as training that will support the member’s individual development. Members will be placed at one of 12 service locations located throughout the County of Los Angeles.

This program is open to students enrolled in one of our participating campuses: California State University at Northridge; California State University at Dominguez Hills; University of California at Los Angeles; California Polytechnic University, Pomona; California State University at Long Beach; and the University of Southern California.
JusticeCorps College Student members provide 300 hours of service. The program start date is September 7, 2013. Hours will be completed by the end of the student’s academic year (May or June). The application deadline is February 28, 2013 for USC and CSU students. The application deadline is April 5, 2013 for UCLA students.
The summer program is open to all current college students or recent graduates. The program offers an intensive 9 week, full-time immersion program from students interested in assisting self-represented litigants. Participants provide 300 hours of service from June 17, 2013 –August 16, 2013. This position requires a minimum service commitment of 35 hours per week (7 – 7.5 hours a day Monday-Friday during normal business hours, depending on the service location).

JusticeCorps Fellows serve for 11-12 months and must complete 1700 hours of service. They receive health benefits, a living allowance of $20,000, payable in 12 equal monthly installments of $1666, and the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award in the sum of $5,550 upon successful completion of the program. The program start date is August 19, 2013. Any individual who will have a bachelor’s degree by the program start date is welcome to apply.
