This new two-story juvenile courthouse completes the first phase of a planned 12-building Juvenile Justice Campus in Fresno. Consolidating juvenile facilities into a central campus minimizes costs, maximizes efficiency, and increases the security in moving defendants to and from court.
The new building is approximately 115,000 square feet, which is shared by the court and other county occupants. For the court, the building includes:
- Four courtrooms and two shelled spaces for future courtrooms
- Four judicial chambers, with another two shelled spaces for future needs
- Conference and multipurpose rooms
- Secured victim-witness waiting rooms
- Child waiting room
- Juvenile law clerk's office
- Secured in-custody holding cells for juveniles with adult holding capabilities
The project came into being through a unique partnership between the court, Fresno County, and the AOC. The county and the AOC are sharing the project cost in a lease-purchase transaction. The county provided the financing, and the AOC and county will each contribute toward debt service. The county developed and managed the project; and the AOC reviewed design, construction, and final project documents.
