Data Exchanges

Integration with Trial Court CMS

As part of the CCMS project, 121 data exchanges servicing all case types have been developed to support courts as they transition to CCMS. The integration technology being used is Web services and NIEM/Extensible Markup Language (XML), which are national and open standards. The data exchanges are compliant with relevant national standards for when, what, and how to exchange information with the California courts. Out of the 121 data exchanges, 63 are based on standards compliant with the National Information Exchange Model (NIEM), and 58 are CCMS XML-based. Joint Application Design Sessions (or focus group sessions) were conducted early on to identify data requirements and high-level business processes for each exchange as part of the CCMS development.

The data exchanges are designed to:

  • Facilitate the electronic exchange of information between courts and their justice partners;
  • Improve information quality and increase uniform semantic definition and understanding;
  • Improve efficiencies and speed up implementation; and
  • Support public safety through access to more complete statewide information.
