Effective Tuesday, February 17, 2015, all filings in a civil appeal or original proceeding submitted to the Court of Appeal, Fifth Appellate District (5th DCA) must be filed electronically (e-Filed) through the Court's electronic filing system, TrueFiling. The TrueFiling system was developed in partnership with the vendor ImageSoft, Inc. The e-Filing system will allow electronic transmission of all civil documents to the court on a 24-hour basis.
Registration for e-Filing will be available starting February 10, 2015 at https://www.truefiling.com. All those submitting civil filings are invited to register beginning February 10. Please remember that you will be unable to file any documents electronically until February 17, 2015 and then only in civil appeals and original proceedings.
Approximately 30 days thereafter, all filings in criminal and juvenile appeals and original proceedings must be e-Filed in the 5th DCA pursuant to California Rules of Court, rule 8.70.
Self-represented parties may register for electronic filing through TrueFiling but are not required to do so. If a self-represented party elects not to use TrueFiling, any brief that is filed in paper form must continue to comply with California Rules of Court, rules 8.40, 8.204 and 8.212.
In anticipation of mandatory e-Filing, the 5th DCA offered free training sessions to the legal community on December 4, 2014. View the training recording. (Note: the link may require the installation of a WebEx plug-in to open.)
