Immediately following the Judicial Council's action to retire the name “Administrative Office of the Courts,” the Chief Justice sent a letter to Governor Brown and the Legislature explaining the reasons for the action as well as the branch's self-assessment activities she has initiated since she was sworn into office as leader of the judicial branch in Jan 2011. more

Chief Justice Directs Retirement of AOC Name
In June 2014, the Chief Justice directed the chairs of the Judicial Council's internal committees to prepare amendments to the California Rules of Court to unify the council as the governing body with its staff under the name “Judicial Council of California” and to retire the name “Administrative Office of the Courts." The amendments were presented and adopted at the July Judicial Council meeting. See news release.
