Fees & Filing

NOTICE OF FILING FEE INCREASES: Pursuant to Senate Bill No. 1021 (2011-2012 Reg. Sess.), the following filing fee increases are effective immediately:

Supreme Court: The fee for filing petitions for review in civil cases and writ petitions within the original civil jurisdiction of the Supreme Court is now $710. The corresponding fee for filing responsive documents is now $390.
Courts of Appeal: The fee for filing notices of appeal in civil cases and writ petitions within the original civil jurisdiction of a Court of Appeal is now $775. The corresponding fee for filing responsive documents is now $390.

5th District

To appear by telephone for oral argument $20
Copy of audio recording of oral argument (on compact disc) $20
Rush fee for transmittal of records from archives (same day service) - No fee for transmittal on regular delivery day (Mondays) $21
Copies: Certified (per certificate) (Gov. Code 68930) $1
Copies: Per page - copied by COA staff $.50
Copies: Per case - An electronic copy of an existing electronic transcript can be duplicated with a Court provided USB device (flash drive). Mailing is included if requested. Fees are per case, regardless of page length. $20
Copies: Per Page - A paper copy of an electronic record. $.15
Copies: Per page - customer using public copier $.25

Filings In Court of Appeal

First document filed in a civil case by a party other than appellant/petitioner  $390
Petitions for Writ of Mandate, Prohibition or Certiorari Gov. Code 68926 ) (there is no fee for filing a petition if the underlying matter is criminal or juvenile in nature) $775
Petitions for Writ of Review involving Agriculture Labor Relations Board (ALRB), Public Employees Relation Board (PERB), Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC), or Public Utilities Commission (PUC) cases $775
Petitions: for writs resulting from contempt proceedings, for writs of habeas corpus, for writs of supersedeas (if related notice of appeal has been filed), Petition to transfer (Rule 8.1006), or for writs of review in Workers Compensation Appeals Board cases No Fee
Copying opinions (if not a party to appeal; per opinion) $5
