The California Center for Judicial Education and Research (CJER), as the Education Division of the Administrative Office of the Courts, is responsible for developing and maintaining comprehensive and quality educational programs and publications for the California judicial branch. This Request for Proposals (RFP) is issued on March 18, 2004, to identify a publisher to typeset and print two of CJER’s criminal law publications. The chosen publisher will be allowed to sell, in print and/or in electronic format both publications to the California bar in exchange for providing copies of the publications for distribution to California judicial officers.
The publications, Felony Sentencing Handbook and Mandatory Criminal Jury Instructions Handbook, are part of a comprehensive collection of educational materials that are distributed by CJER to California judicial officers without charge. The Felony Sentencing Handbook is a quick-reference tool for judges with criminal assignments, and provides a listing of the sentencing terms of all California felonies, felony sentencing enhancements, and probation restrictions. TheMandatory Criminal Jury Instructions Handbook is a quick-reference tool, containing a brief summary of the substantive law of sua sponte requirements for instruction, a checklist of instructions the trial court must give sua sponte in felony trials, and a discussion of common instructional errors.
Proposals must be received prior to 5 p.m., on April 16, 2004. Only written responses will be accepted. Responses should be sent by registered or certified mail or by hand delivery.
