Chief Justice’s Initiative on Keeping Kids in School and Out of Court

On Sept 11, state leaders in Sacramento gathered to recognize September as "School Attendance Awareness Month." Initiatives to improve school attendance in California were shared, including the Chief Justice's Keeping Kids in School and Out of Court initiative.

In her report to the Judicial Council on Aug 21, the Chief Justice highlights her activities in this area and states, "Suspensions, expulsions, truancy, and chronic absenteeism are linked to academic failure. They’re also a path to the juvenile and possibly the criminal justice system for many school kids." Listen
