Hollister Courthouse Construction to be Re-bid
SAN FRANCISCO—The State Treasurer’s scheduled sale of lease-revenue bonds in mid-October to fund construction of the new courthouse in downtown Hollister marks an endpoint to the delay of the project. On September 28, 2011, the State Public Works Board authorized the bond sale, and the State Treasurer’s Office currently has the sale scheduled to begin October 13, 2011.
These announcements enable the project’s construction-manager-at-risk, Kitchell Contractors, to resume planning and scheduling for the long-awaited project. Because of the length of the previous delay, the $30 million construction project now needs to be re-bid. Consequently, Kitchell will reopen the prequalification process period for contractors and suppliers from October 7, 2011, through October 24, 2011. Contractors who prequalified previously will need to resubmit the required forms, which will be available on the Kitchell website along with a summary of changes in the prequalification process. Kitchell will continue to perform outreach to encourage participation by the widest possible pool of local contractors and suppliers.
Here are upcoming milestones for the project, to construct a 41,500-square-foot, two-story, three-courtroom courthouse at Fourth, West, Third, and Monterey Streets in downtown Hollister:
• October 24, 2011: Prequalification closes
• November/December 2011: Subcontractor bidding
• Early 2012: Start of construction; date to be determined.
• Fall 2013: Expected completion.
