Judicial Council to discuss Strategic Evaluation Committee report at June meeting

SAN FRANCISCO—Justice Douglas P. Miller, chair of the Executive and Planning Committee for the Judicial Council, announced today that the Strategic Evaluation Committee report will be presented to the Judicial Council by the chair and co-chair of the SEC on June 21 or 22nd. The Executive and Planning Committee sets the agenda for the Judicial Council meetings.

With his announcement, Justice Miller released the following statement:

“I have read the SEC report many times, and I look forward to a frank discussion with council members about its recommendations regarding the Administrative Office of the Courts. Before we can do that, our Executive and Planning Committee must decide how and in what form the recommendations will come before the council. We’ll be doing that tomorrow. It is helpful to have Interim Administrative Director Jody Patel’s status update, which says that 57 of the 147 SEC recommendations are already completed or in process of being completed. I am pleased but not surprised by how much has already been accomplished since January 2011 and especially after July 2011. It shows we're headed in the right direction. During the last year, the Judicial Council has instituted a number of measures that have increased oversight of the AOC. I believe the SEC report will be another helpful tool as we continue to bring thoughtful change to the judicial branch, the Judicial Council, and to the AOC.”
