AOC Trims Number of IT Contractors

SAN FRANCISCO—In order to implement Judicial Council directives on staffing and to reduce costs, the Administrative Office of the Courts (AOC) announced today that it is reducing up to 18 information technology contractor positions and establishing regular AOC employee positions to provide critical long-term technology maintenance and support services.

“We determined that this change will save the agency from $350,000 to $750,000 a year without increasing the number of positions,” said Curt Soderlund, the AOC’s chief administrative officer. “We intend to post 18 positions and begin recruiting for them this week. All qualified persons are free to apply for the positions.”

Since the Judicial Council halted deployment of the California Court Case Management System for fiscal reasons in March 2012, the AOC has let go of 33 technology workers. In the last year, the AOC lost about 30 percent of its workforce due to budget cuts.

The newly established technology positions are critical to judicial branch operations because they implement and manage systems for the trial and appellate courts, including existing case management systems.
