Judge Marla O. Anderson has served on the Judicial Council since 2014. She has served on several Judicial Council committees and workgroups. She is a member of the Ad Hoc Workgroup on Post-Pandemic Initiatives. Judge Anderson has served on the Judicial Branch Budget Committee, the Pretrial Reform and Operations Workgroup, and the Commission on the Future of California’s Court System.

Judge Marla O. Anderson was appointed to the bench by Governor Pete Wilson in 1995. She served as presiding judge of the Monterey County Superior Court from 2013 to 2015 and assistant presiding judge from 2011 to 2012. Judge Anderson is active in judicial education, serving on education planning workgroups and as faculty for the council’s Center for Judicial Education and Research. She served as Dean of the B.E. Witkin Judicial College of California from 2013 to 2014 and the Assistant Dean from 2011 to 2012.

Judge Anderson has received several recognitions and awards, including the “Lady Justice Award for Lifetime Achievement” by the Monterey County Women’s Lawyer’s Association in 2015 and the “Champion of Justice” Award by the California Association of Black Lawyers in 2016.
