Judge Brian John Back was appointed to the Ventura County Superior Court by Governor Pete Wilson in 1997. He was the presiding judge of the Ventura Juvenile Court (including Drug Court and Mental Health Court) for seven years, and the assistant presiding judge for the superior court for years. He has served as the presiding judge for the past two years, and is currently assigned to the court’s Criminal Division.

Prior to his appointment to the Judicial Council, Judge Back served on several council advisory bodies, including the Family and Juvenile Law Advisory Committee. He also chaired the Juvenile Delinquency Court Assessment Working Group, and the Juvenile Delinquency Court Improvement Resource Group. As the presiding judge for Ventura County Superior Court, Judge Back serves on the council’s Trial Court Presiding Judges Advisory Committee and Executive Committee. Currently, he serves as a member of the California State Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Prior to his appointment, he was an attorney with Arnold, Back, Mathews, Wojkowski & Zirbel.
