Public Meeting and Invitation to Comment on Draft EIR for Proposed New Placerville Courthouse
What: A public meeting hosted by the staff of California’s Judicial Council will present the Draft Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the proposed new Placerville courthouse in El Dorado County adjacent to the county jail on Forni Road. The public and other interested parties will have an opportunity to review and comment on the state’s draft EIR.
The comment period extends through 5 p.m. on December 1, 2014, so those unable to attend the meeting may also review the document and comment. The draft EIR and instructions for submitting comments are available on the Background tab for the project on the California Courts Website: http://www.courts.ca.gov/facilities-eldorado.htm
When: Thursday, November 6, 2014, 6:00 p.m.
Where: Building C Hearing Room, 2850 Fairlane Court, Placerville, CA 95667
Who: Judicial Council staff will present proposed project information and a brief overview of the draft environmental report. Interested parties may present public comments at the meeting or submit written comments to Laura.Sainz@jud.ca.gov.
Why: The proposed project will house six courtrooms in approximately 88,000 square feet. It will consolidate services at the Placerville Main Street Courthouse and leased space inside the Building C Branch into a modern courthouse. Both current facilities are overcrowded, have significant security problems, accessibility and safety issues, and are unable to meet the judicial needs of the county’s population. The project is funded by Senate Bill 1407, which finances critically needed courthouse construction, renovation, and repairs through fees, fines, and penalties paid by court users, without drawing from taxpayer revenues. Projected completion date for the new courthouse is fall 2020.
