Mediation Participation by Skype - Santa Clara Superior Court

Overview/Program Description:

The court makes it possible for litigants in Family Court Services who are going through the mediation process to appear via Skype. The court has two offices with this technology capability so that the court can address needs for litigants who may be unable to participate in person due to military obligations, hardships, ADA issues, or other reasons. This program began as an outgrowth from our current practice of allowing telephone mediations in limited cases. We have been allowing telephone mediation for two years.

Program Benefits/Savings:

The court has no outcome information at this time as the court is only just beginning to schedule mediations using Skype, and only in limited circumstances. Efficiencies and other benefits are not known yet.
