Fred W. Marler, jr (April 6, 1932 -Sept. 19, 1998 )Born April 6, 1932, in Auburn, Fred W. Marler grew up in Chico, and graduated with BA from University of California, Berkeley, in 1954. He spent two years in USAF before attending Boalt Hall (LLB, 1959).After admission to the California Bar in January 1960, he entered private practice in Redding, became active in local politics, and in 1965 was elected to the California State Senate where he served 9 years, including his last 3 as minority floor leader. Appointed to Sacramento Superior Court in 1974, Marler served as Presiding Justice. from 1980-81, and as president of the California Judges Association 1983-1984. In 1987 he was appointed to Court of Appeal, Third Appellate District, where he served until his retirement April 30, 1992. Justice Marler remained active in the legal community as a private judge until his death from pulmonary fibrosis, Sept.19, 1998.
