Supreme Court of California Appoints Jason P. Lee to the State Bar Board of Trustees

SAN FRANCISCO—The Supreme Court of California announced the appointment of Attorney Jason P. Lee to the State Bar Board of Trustees. He will be sworn in at the State Bar’s Annual Meeting this October and will serve a three-year term.

The Supreme Court was assisted in selecting its appointee to the State Bar Board of Trustees by the seven-member State Bar Trustees Nominating Committee. The work of the committee is governed by Rule 9.90 of the California Rules of Court, which describes the factors to be considered in soliciting, reviewing, and recommending to the court potential appointees to the board, as well as the general operation of the committee.

Jason P. Lee is an attorney with the United States Securities and Exchange Commission in Los Angeles, specializing in securities litigation, regulation, and enforcement. He is a member of the commission’s Diversity Council, which is charged with creating and implementing strategies to increase diversity throughout the agency, and also previously served as Senior Counsel with the commission from 1999 - 2004. In private practice Mr. Lee was co-chair of the Securities Enforcement Defense Group at Shartsis Friese LLP in San Francisco.

Mr. Lee is actively involved in bar and bar association activities, serving on the State Bar of California’s Commission on Judicial Nominees Evaluation, including one year as chair of the commission. He has also served as a member of the Judicial and Public Appointment Committee of the Asian Pacific Bar Association of Southern California, as a board member of the Asian American Bar Association of the Greater Bay Area and co-chair of its Judiciary Committee, and on the pro bono lawyer panel for the Asian Law Caucus as lead counsel on a number of immigration matters.

He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Los Angeles, a Juris Doctor from Santa Clara University School of Law, and a Master of Laws, with distinction, in Securities and Financial Regulations from Georgetown University Law Center.

The State Bar Board of Trustees consists of nineteen members: five attorney members appointed by the Supreme Court; six attorney members elected from State Bar Districts based on the six Court of Appeal districts; two attorney members appointed by the Legislature, one by the Senate Committee on Rules, and one by the Speaker of the Assembly; and six “public” or non-lawyer members, of which four are appointed by the governor, one by the Senate Committee on Rules and one by the Speaker of the Assembly.
