Presiding Judge Kimberly Merrifield was appointed the Superior Court of Butte County in 2015. She currently serves as the court’s presiding judge and has served as assistant presiding judge in 2021. Judge Merrifield also serves as the supervising judge of the court’s juvenile division and has served as supervising judge of the criminal division from 2020 to 2021.

Judge Merrifield became a member of the California Judges Association (CJA) in 2015 and was elected by her colleagues to serve as the District 1 Representative on the CJA Executive Board in 2020. Judge Merrifield has been recently elected by the CJA Board to serve as one of its vice presidents for 2022–2023. In addition to her judicial outreach with Judges in the Classroom, Judge Merrifield acts as a Judicial Mentor Program Liaison.

Judge Merrifield serves as chair of the Trial Court Presiding Judges Advisory Committee.
