Juvenile Court Users Research

The Administrative Office of the Courts is dedicated to improving the quality of justice and services to meet the diverse needs of children, youth, families, and self-represented litigants in the California courts. One of the projects created to help improve the quality of justice provided to those involved with the juvenile courts of California is the Court Users’ Research and Technical Assistance Project. The starting point for this project is the Juvenile Delinquency Court Assessment 2008, which identifies the experiences of court users and professionals. From these statewide findings, and working with courts representative of California’s population, geography, and court systems, this project will identify how these challenges to court user comprehension specifically occur in identified courts, propose solutions and assist these courts with implementation of developed improvement plans. Based on these improvement plans, the Center for Families, Children & the Courts will conduct process and outcome evaluations of the efforts, proposed changes and resulting effects.
