Assembly Member Brian Maienschein represents California’s 76th Assembly District comprised of northern San Diego County, where he has served since 2012. Before joining the Assembly, he served eight years on the San Diego City Council, and as the city’s first Commissioner on Homelessness. His major accomplishments include responding to two wildfires in district 76—the 2003 Cedar Fire and the 2007 Witch Creek Fire; completion of State Route 56; and the preservation of 10,000 acres in the San Pasqual Valley.

Assembly Member Maienschein has also been recognized for his work in the areas of maternal mental health, animal rights, and advocacy for the developmentally disabled. He was named Legislator of the Year in 2017 by the California Small Business Association for his support of small businesses.

He graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara and California Western School of Law, and currently teaches a course on Election Law at University of San Diego School of Law.

Assembly Member Maienschein chairs the California State Assembly Committee on Judiciary and serves on the following committees: Health, Communications and Conveyance, Emerging Technologies and Innovation, and Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities.
